Bidirectional charging is gaining fast traction as it enables electric vehicles not only to draw power from the grid but also to send electricity back providing local grid support services and backup power to homes. All that is supported by international standards such as OCPP 2.1 and ISO 15118-20. Providing power on demand or drawing power from the grid when conditions are right anywhere and anytime requires interoperable technical solutions that comply with regional and cross border regulatory requirements and work under grid instability. The presentation will give an overview of the current technical regulatory requirements and standards as well existing and upcoming market regulation that will unlock the full potential for EV to act as decentralized virtual power plants. The presentation will end by pointing out missing regulatory aspects and business challenges.
